From the city often referred to as Motown comes Omar S. One of my favorite producers at the moment and still on the Ford Motor Company payroll. To live up to the legacy of fellow Detroit citizens such as Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Carl Craig and a whole movement of beat pioneers is no mean feat. To do it with the versatility and ease of Omar S is just baffling. He releases all his material on his own label FXHE Records, a little sidestep on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature imprint aside. FXHE has also been instrumental to the rise of producers like Jus Ed and Kyle Hall and Omar himself hes been busy engineering for Mr Parrish too. In 2009 Fabric approached the man for a mix and he churned out a corker with nothing but Omar S tunes and he sounded like noone else! In the fine tradition of his Detroit predecessors his music works on both body and soul and oozes depth, something that’s often missing in club tracks.
