Hot on the heels of their debut album Resolution 653, Instra:Mental mix up a selection of cuts new and old for the latest installment of Resident Advisor’s legendary series of podcasts. Download it here.
As RA’s Richard Carnes pointed out at the beginning of last year, Alex Green and Damon Kirkham, AKA Instra:mental, have been responsible for some of the most exciting drum & bass of recent vintage. Teaming up with dBridge, they’re responsible for the Autonomic sound, an open-ended approach that has taken in a celebrated podcast, a revered mix for fabric and a club brand that is now getting booked around the world. Nowadays, though, they’re interested in creating just about anything but: electro, techno, dubstep and anything that defies description is what you’ll find on their new album, Resolution 653. As the world of electronic music seems more open to eclecticism than just about any time in memory, it’s clear that things are only going to get bigger for the duo.
Full tracklisting below:
01. Sun Rec

Looking forward to hear Instra:Mental’s Drama’s solo material as Jon Convex. Tunes are forthcoming on 3024, Naked Lunch and Non Plus… Fact sat down with the man for a little Q&A… Read it here
Storming mix from [nakedlunch] head honcho Micky. Some of you might remember him as Pressure from the Redzone nights, others need no introduction at all. Tunes from Instra:mental (3024 cut!), Scuba, Joy Orbison, Addison Groove masterfully blended with classic cuts from Armando & Phuture… Instant Limited Addiction favorite!!! (yes that’s three exclamation marks).

Posted about Instra:mental a couple of weeks ago. Today Fact Magazine has a guest mix up on their site. So if you liked what you heard last time around, I think right now is a good time to click the link below and indulge in some deep and dirty minimal business!
Instra:mental are Alex Green & Damon Kirkham. My initial introduction was through former Source Direct’s now defunct Demonic label in 2000 when they released the hard-as-nails Amen rinse out classic Boomer. Then it went quiet for a good few years before re-emerging in 2007 with a brand new sound, their trademark stripped down take on dnb that was a lot less in-your-face than their earlier outings (check Pacific Heights below for a taste). About as far removed from the stadium sound of a lot of the current dnb output their sound is deep, minimal and gloomy at its best. They release on their own Non Plus label and signed tracks by partner in sound dBridge, dubstep figurehead Skream and ASC. They’ve also had tunes on Apple Pips, Darkestral, dBridge’s Exit Records and on Naked Lunch (check the moody house sounds of Let’s Talk below). Next up is a collab between them, Skream and dBridge called Acacia Avenue b/w Detroid on Autonomic that is simply lethal! Anyway, I’ll let the music do the talking….
Instra:mental – Pacific Heights on Darkestral
Instra:mental – Let’s Talk on Naked Lunch
Instra:mental – Watching You on Non Plus
This stripped down monster of a tune by Instra:mental, dBridge & Skream
